To the Senses
To touch
a kitten’s belly fur
dew-heavy leaves
satin skin, lightly
To see
rainbows over the
ocean’s roll
hawks dancing on the
wind
Love’s kindest smile
To smell
rose and honeysuckle,
on the same breeze
new rain soaking old pine
trees
freshly carved, deeply
swirled wood
To hear
distant bells over a
sleepy town
my own heart, beating
gladly
soft breathing of my
love beside me
To taste, ah, to taste
orange blossom honey
cold spring water on a
hot day
crisp fall apples and
sharp cheese
To be
to hear, taste, touch
and see
to live Life, to have
lived Life fully
to let Life fill me up
