The mooing of cows
Next to the marigolds, the mooing
of cows, a dozen peonies circling
the sycamores. There’s goats and
a corn stand, smelly pink pigs on
this twice yearly visit to Anna, my
mom’s older sister.
Leaving the Bronx, crossing over
the Triboro, heading north up the
parkway, four hours long, then the
trip coming back, “trying the tires”
in Dad’s new Impala; 2 city girls
discover “the country life.”.
Sneaking the rice krispy treats that
our Aunt Anna gave us, we made sure
not to mess up our father’s new car,
as we bonded together, laughing like
sisters, on the road trip back home.
