The Dream Chaser

The Dream Chaser

It’s such a lovely day today--

Meandering, the river flows

And carries with it paper boats

That dance and dip as they go by

I watch them as they catch the wind

And quickly sail away with it

I don’t know where they’re going to

I do know where they’ve just now been

The builder, who with tiny hands

And chubby fingers crafted them

Their creases sealed up water tight

And sent to find some magic light

Shipped out to find a distant sea

They’re chased to where they land softly

And gently, pushed away again

Swift, sent to chase the river down

Go carefree, floating, bouncing off

Sailing out, enchanted, going free

And followed by their architect

Who hurries by saluting me--

He’s loaded in them all his hopes

And put inside them all his dreams

And filled them to the brim with things

That we as children know we need

And sitting at the river’s edge

I smile and I watch him play

I know that he will be okay--

With big ideas, giant hopes

My boy is launching out his boats

My boy is launching out his boats
