Ripples On A Pond
(For Daniel)
One dead boy’s circumstance should be confined
to the killer’s here and now.
At least that's what the slayer hoped for.
After all, everyone should understand his need
to have done what he did
in the immediacy of the moment.
Here's the flaw in that logic:
That one dead boy, known to many,
loved by lots, respected by countless.
His loss affects legion in a multitude of ways.
Like ripples on a pond
we feel the waves of the loss
spread out among us,
and these waves do not subside.
