Story Time
We all emerge through pain
from lightless, sightless safety
and throw a triumphant cry into
the lighted air,
defiant,
yet fearful for the unknown
through which we journey
to reach the silence
before the deep, dark slit
in the raw earth,
or the crackling, cackling
flames that consume.
How we bear ourselves
while we weave without foresight
through joys and assaults
is our story.
