Fake
Cowboys
Take
off the eleven and half gallon hat
And
join the modern world.
That
cowboy shit wasn’t real then
And
it’s not selling beans now.
Killing
Indians
And
Runaway Slaves
Ain’t
nothing to be proud about anyhow.
And
for all you Willie Nelson fans
that
pot-smoking, tax-dodging tenderfoot
isn’t any more authentic
than
these suburban rappers with guns
and
business degrees.
Pure
theatre
For
the unwashed
And
unworthy.
Word to the served.

I agree. There are no more cowboy. Just a bunch of alcoholics pretending to be more important than they really are. You want to be brave. Face life sober.
ReplyDeleteThe cowboy is more an idea now. A time gone. This piece reminds me of a piece of Southwest Literature I read, called The Brave Cowboy by Edward Abbey. Thought-provoking write.
