Drinks With Old Friends
Somewhere along the way,
the laughter changes
timbre.
Judgmental highs
where the playful goads used to be --
the jabs you were all comfortable with --
and not only are they mocking you,
but you’re doing it yourself.
Living for the night as your best critic:
a bald-spot, a leather chair, and an audience.
A bar tab a mile long.

Living for the night as your best critic:
a bald-spot, a leather chair, and an audience.
A bar tab a mile long.
Eight o’clock is going to feel great.
