“Writing” Poems with Three Children
Means
repeating the words over
and
over in your head, hoping
to
commit them, or at least some,
to
memory, as you pick up socks shed
at
the door, pick up abandoned art,
crumb-covered
plates, the overturned
basket
of balls, as you wash, fold,
and
put away another load of laundry,
pack
dairy-free and nut-free lunches,
as
you watch your son string cars together
on
the stairs, line after enviable line.
