A Solar Illusion
Seen beyond winter branches
and the sudden tree space
carved by the crashing storm,
gleaming as though drawing
deep down into itself
the distant sun’s hot light,
a silvered lance spears a
crucified man hanging
tall upon the far hill,
slow arms rotating, as
relentlessly as those
standing long in the cold
waters of the river
pursue hidden prey and
reel in their fated fish.
