The Uncoupling
From remnants of the unresolved,
comes sage insistence:
each beginning contains an end.
There is over time a slow
degeneration,
fire to ash to earth wherein
wind wears down protective panes,
& drafts stir the hardest foundations.
Such a wind blows hard
this late afternoon,
shaking maple branches
to warn a sleeping garden
of nature’s fickle dance.
Seasons come undone
as rhythms are thrown,
& even rising constellations
cast cautionary nods
toward reckless aftermath
on this planet of change.
