Different Is Me
I am different, but
that’s okay
Because different is me.
I may have no arms to
hug you
Or legs that can run and
play
I am different and
that’s okay
Because different is me.
My smile may look funny
to you
Or my eyes that can’t
see your face
I am different and
that’s okay
Because different is me.
Sometimes my brain can’t
think
Or my words come out
wrong
People look away when
they see me,
They are just
uncomfortable, but you see
I am different and
that’s okay
Because different is me.
My skin may be dark or
light,
I may be short or very
tall
I may not be able
to sit still
Or read this story to
you
I am different and
that’s okay
Because different is me
My soul reaches out to
touch yours,
Together we are different,
yet the same.
I need to be loved, just
like you
In my own unique way.
I am different and
that’s okay
Because different is me!

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and
a Master’s degree in Special Education. I was an at home mom and taught a home
pre-school program while my children were growing up, went back to school to
finish my degree when my youngest started school. I love teaching, love
learning and love the amazing, undaunted spirit of children that need a little
different kind of love and attention.

Beautifully written. A good reminder to love all, no matter our differences.
ReplyDeleteReading this poem made me cry. It shows what a big heart you have, and that you have love for the children.
