The Shade That Once Was
I thought I saw you today
A shade that was yours
It hurts to be reminded
of you and your behavior
You hide yourself
in congenial masquerades,
cloak yourself in gentleness
When I lost myself in you,
you found my strings,
played me like a helpless marionette
Entangled in your narcissistic game,
I became aware of my inner strength
As I cut myself loose
from your manipulations,
I sentenced you
to be
' the shade that once was'
